R1200GS CargoRest FitKits are designed to mount over the stock plastic luggage rack. No modifications are required to the motorcycle and it's a simple bolt-on operation that takes only a few minutes.
When the CargoRest is in place it significantly strengthens the rear of the motorcycle. Static loads of over 200 pounds have been tested, but for practical riding applications you should limit the cargo load to about 30 pounds.
